I love my "Peeps!"

One of my favorite things is my mom's engraved William Arthur stationery. When I opened the Peeps this morning, the yellow reminded me of the pretty note cards, envelopes, and a china she has that she has not used for the blog yet. Even though today was a busy day, I asked her if I could set a quick table.

I had to hurry. I set this table between church and a trip to my grandmother's house. I love the black and yellow!  Don't you think my mom's stationery reminds you of it?

My plan was to add more Peeps, and I wanted to put toothpicks in the Peeps and make paper flags as a place card. I ran out of time! When you're 12 and your parents tell you it's time to go - they mean it!

Happy Easter!

Note from Andrea:

Place mats - Kmart
China - Ebay - Tabletops by Sheffield (I don't know the pattern name.)
Crystal - Ebay - Perspective by Noritake
Tea light candle holder - Marshall's, $3.99
Silver - Sir Christopher by Wallace
Pitcher with honeysuckle - Pier 1 and about 15 years old
Stationery - William Arthur - purchased from finestationery.com - I have no affiliation with them, but they were awesome. I had a new engraving plate made for this set of stationery when everything was on special. Super professional and very happy with the results. Will use them again and again... Also, I like Amy Adele on the internet, too. No affiliation there either, but I love their kids' notes.

If I can only be young at heart, that is good enough

When I was twelve, I was crazy about two things. One was the music of Ray Charles (I had just discovered him!) and the color combination of green and purple. I was so crazy about green and purple that my friends would look for things in those colors for me, even when they were on vacation!
Eventually, I found other colors that I loved and really forgot about green and purple – until now. I was trying to find something new to use with my Lenox “Solitaire” china, when I saw some purple glass plates that were on sale at Sur la Table. For some reason, the website would not let me purchase the plates and I, eventually, gave up.
A few days later, my sweet daughter found purple Pyrex “Festiva” glass plates at Big Lots and bought them for me. I thought they would look good with Solitaire, but what else could I use?

Another earlier Big Lots purchase had been some lavender place mats, so they went on the table.

I had purple goblets from Pier I.

Then, the great inspiration came! I discovered the most wonderful website, Saffron Marigold, and they had green and purple napkins! You must visit this online store. I have absolutely nothing to do with it, but they have the most marvelous linens. They are hand blocked in India and the cotton fabric is so incredibly soft. You really have to feel it to believe it. Anyway, I ordered the green and purple napkins and they certainly have rekindled my love of that lovely color combination.

A “Solitaire” dinner plate went on the lavender placemat…

Then, I added the purple “Festiva”. These plates are nine inches – perhaps, they are luncheon plates. I am not sure, but the swirl design is really pretty.

Next, I added a “Solitaire” salad plate as an under plate for the soup bowl. I needed something else green to go with the green and purple napkins, so I made a chilled green soup (Creamy and Cold Avocado Soup – recipe to follow). Perfect!

I used Barenthal flatware in an ivory color – a Tuesday Morning purchase.

I bought some yummy rolls at Fresh Market and put them on a "Solitaire" bread and butter plate. The butter spreader is from Steinmart.

The lovely cut glass butter dish was a gift from my mother-in-law.

For the centerpiece, I used a purple bowl that belongs to my daughter and simply placed a bird’s nest in it, in honor of spring – lots of green to go with the color scheme.

With dessert in mind, I added a sugar and creamer, a coffee pot and coffee cups to the table. All are part of my “Solitaire” collection.
Now, maybe I will get out those Ray Charles CDs and entertain my guests with “Hit the Road, Jack” or “Georgia on My Mind”. It is so much fun to feel twelve, again!!

Creamy and Cold Avocado Soup
2 medium ripe avocados, seeded and peeled
2 ½ cups cold water

3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
2 cloves of garlic, quartered
4 teaspoons of granulated chicken flavored bouillon
Garnish with avocado or cilantro
Place avocados, water, 1 cup cilantro (optional), media crema, lime juice, garlic, and bouillon in blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. Refrigerate one hour. Garnish and serve immediately.

Waiting for the Breakfast Pies!

After putting away the colorful dishes from my Valentine's Day and Blue Monday settings, I wanted some relief from all that color. What a better way to solve that problem, than to set an all white table.

This table is set for four people who are enjoying some fruit and bread (biscuits, of course - I am a southerner, after all!), while waiting on the main attraction, "Breakfast Pies" (recipe to follow).

Don't you love how the early morning light streams through the shutters?

The tablecloth is an old one of mine and the white placemats and napkins are purchases from Belk. I used a square silver napkin ring and an addition to the place white napkins - lace doilies, which look like tiny aprons.

The main dinnerware service is "Yardley" by Mikasa. The only exception is the "Sunflower White" plate by Clay Art, which holds the ramekin full of strawberries. The ramekin is from Pier I.

Both crystal patterns are from Schott Zwiesel. The water goblet is the “Delilah” pattern, but I do not know the pattern of the juice glass. I purchased 8 of these at Tuesday Morning a few years ago and there was not pattern name on them.

On the bread and butter plate, I used a butter knife from the stainless flatware that I chose as a bride. It is "Cantata" by Oneida. When the first purchases were made, it was bought by the piece only. It is a classic, since Oneida has never stopped making it, but now it can be bought in sets.

One way to make your guests feel special is to present them with an individual domed butter server. I bought these at one of the kitchen outlet stores.

The white flatware is from Wal-mart.

I love the way that all of the whites mix – everything from “white” white to almost cream. The urn that holds the flowers is a purchase that I made years ago and holds white mums, white daisy mums and white tulips. The tulips give me hope that spring is just around the corner!

I hope that you will enjoy this break from color, before winter is swept away and our senses are filled the color and fragrance of spring!
I, also, hope that you enjoy the Sausage and Egg Pie recipe. It is one of my favorites, but there is a disclaimer – these pies cannot be classified as “health food”!

Sausage and Egg Pie
Two 8 inch pie shells, unbaked
12 ounces of Mozzarella cheese, grated
One pound medium or hot sausage
3/4 cup of milk
Four large eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pepper to taste
Grate cheese and sprinkle over the bottom of the pie shells. Brown and drain sausage.
Sprinkle sausage over cheese. Mix eggs, milk, salt and pepper. Pour over sausage. Bake in the oven for 30 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees. Let cool a few minutes, then cut into “pie” wedges and serve.
