Butterflies for Lunch

Hi! This is Emma again, and this is my Mother's Day table!

I chose butterflies for a couple of different reasons. One is that my life has changed a lot this year, and it is still changing. I am looking forward to the whole metamorphosis part being over. The other reason is that I wanted to use this tray for something new.  When I was sick, my mother kept all of my PICC line materials on it, like alcohol pads, saline syringes, and the medicine balls out of the fridge warmed up here for an hour every time I had to attach a new one. It was the perfect tray for that because it was plastic. If anything spilled or leaked, it cleaned right up. And it was a pretty tray, even at 2:00am medicine changes. It made it seem like she was serving me a nice little meal or something. But now that's over, and I thought this was a good way to give this tray a new job, especially since my mom really helped me through all of this.

I also really like these butterfly plates we bought at a TJMaxx when I was sick. They were only $2.99 a piece. We hadn't used them yet, and I think they match pretty well.

I sort of wanted to use pink with this somehow, but my next post will use pink, and also I didn't really like the pink when I put it on the tray. I tried a pink napkin, a pink plate, a pink glass, and a pink placemat in different combinations. It wasn't that it didn't match. It just took away too much from the butterflies.

The clear glass plates on top were bought on eBay. I think my mom said she paid $5.99 for 6. They have a few chips on the bottoms of 3 of them, but I think they are really pretty.

I used some of our everyday crystal and flatware and a white napkin.

Mom will like the butterflies, and now I can think of something new when I see this pretty tray!

  1. How sweet your butterfly tablescape is. You've repurposed the tray beaufifully. What a good eye you've developed for tablescaping -- it obviously runs in the family.
