I love my "Peeps!"

One of my favorite things is my mom's engraved William Arthur stationery. When I opened the Peeps this morning, the yellow reminded me of the pretty note cards, envelopes, and a china she has that she has not used for the blog yet. Even though today was a busy day, I asked her if I could set a quick table.

I had to hurry. I set this table between church and a trip to my grandmother's house. I love the black and yellow!  Don't you think my mom's stationery reminds you of it?

My plan was to add more Peeps, and I wanted to put toothpicks in the Peeps and make paper flags as a place card. I ran out of time! When you're 12 and your parents tell you it's time to go - they mean it!

To my Trudie: the best grandmother in the world

I love my Trudie! She is my dad's mom, and I have her to thank for her top-secret chicken and dumpling recipe, my green eyes, and the beautiful things she has made me through the years.  She made the place mats on my table for me when I got married, and I still treasure them. 

The fruit motif is really nice because they match so many of my patterns. I think hand-made gifts are the best. I have large cross-stitched wall hangings that she made each of my children when they were born. I have numerous other knitted blankets that are put to frequent use. This year when Emma was so often in the hospital, I was so grateful to have them to bring a little something from home to keep family close when they were not allowed to visit. 

Today, I have used these lovingly cross-stitched place mats with some of my other favorite things. The vintage red Morgantown golf ball iced-teas and the Spode Cranberry Traditions plates are so pretty on a spring table. (These were from eBay, as always, though the Spode Traditions were actually from the Replacements eBay site. These were sold as an auction and were actually cheaper through eBay than on the Replacements site. They have more!)

There are six different patterns in this particular set.

The majolica fruit sculpture matches the place mats and is also a special item. It was a gift from "Mrs. Margie," whom Emma mentioned in her last blog. I grew up across the street from Mrs. Margie, and we still visit even now.

I added my favorite red salad plates from Dillard's, my Dollar Tree soup bowls, and my Target ramekins with bright green apples. My family enjoyed this table for an early spring supper, complete with chicken and dumplings! The only thing missing was my Trudie!

A Brunch for Marnie and Megan

I used to have four American Girl dolls, but I didn't really play with them, and my mom gave them and all their things to Goodwill.  When my little sister wanted one, she wanted me to get a new one so they could play together. And so I did.

Meet Marnie and Megan. When my mom thought up the idea for this blog, I had planned on using the American Girl dolls for my tablescapes, but I actually have a lot more real dinnerware that I do doll dinnerware. Lately, we have been trying to find antique items that can be used as doll items. Trying to buy the vintage doll items has been more difficult. When my grandmother tried to purchase an antique doll-sized punch bowl set online, the seller refunded her money saying that it had already sold. I think I really would like to collect miniature fine china and things like that, though. I am just really picky about what I want. So, we are still looking.

We do have enough, though, for a first doll post! I have finally put together a brunch for Marnie and Megan. I think that is just what these two American girls need! Sleeping in, then come down to eat at a gorgeous table in your pyjamas? What more could you ask for? I have been really sick this year, but lately I have gotten that special treatment more than once. And I love it! I really want to go back to school, but I will miss it!

As far as my dolls go, they now have a lovely blue, flowered table cloth on their picnic table. (This is just a cloth napkin.) I have two little blue flowery butter pats they are using as plates. My mom has had these since high school. [Insert mom comment: These are an Alfed Meakin pattern dating before 1897. I would love to know what it is!]

The girls have two amazing Heisey glasses in the Colonial pattern.  They are actually part of an adult set that was made up until 1907, but they fit the girls perfectly! A good way to serve some orange juice...

I am using two sterling silver salt spoons in my mom's pattern as regular spoons for their apple sauce. The apple sauce and the croissant are part of an American Girl lunch box set! 

 The sterling salt shakers are an adult individual set, but I think they look great on this table in case the girls need to season their sandwiches.

In their p.j's., these two American girls had a tasty little brunch. They both ate all of their food because it was so good, and how lucky they are to have such fine things! My sister and I were very proud of them! (Thanks, Mom and Nana!)

Sweet Thirteen

 

I am not sure how many times you have visited our blog, but I am the one in middle school, Emma. I have just gotten into tablescaping with my mom and grandmother this year, though I have played in the china since I was little.  I have been thinking that I can design my own table for my 13th birthday. Today is the first of many  ideas I am considering. I also want to do all of the food if I can, so everything you will see today is something most 12-year-olds can do.

I decided to do a beautiful buffet. Snack plates that I just adore sit at one end next to the silver. My mom's silver is Sir Christopher by Wallace. My silver is Francis the 1st by Reed and Barton, but I don't have 12 salad forks yet. I wanted to use her cocktail forks, but she only has 8 of those I think.

My mother loves snack plate and cup sets. These snack plates are Johnson Brothers Rose Chintz pattern.  I like how they have a place for the cup. They have blue, brown, and green in the pattern, too, so they would match different kinds of rooms.

My mom actually bought these plates to go with the punch bowl set. She bought the punch bowl set from a woman in New York off eBay. The 24 cups, the bowl, the stand, and the ladle were less than $40 including shipping, she said. After she bought the set, she wanted 24 plates to go with them. She doesn't have the actual cups in the pattern, but she said she doesn't need them because the punch cups fit. She found 24 of these great plates on Replacements.com. I am only using 12 of everything on this table.  I really adore these plates. They look white here, but they are actually cream. I still wanted to use the white tablecloth, though. I think they look fine on white.

For the food, I decided to use anything we had that didn't require cooking. 

I used fresh vegetables and ranch dip.

And I had crackers and cheese.

We have bought a lot of Girl Scout cookies lately, so I included those and some of the Valentine's candy we still have.

The grapes were pretty on the table. My mom bought this bowl and the matching chip and dip at an Oneida outlet store many years ago.

I think you can tell from this angle and some of the other pictures, I had peanuts on the table. My little sister and I love peanuts and peanut butter. As a baby, she called it teeny butter, and we still call it that in our house.

We also always have several kinds of juice. This is a punch I made with CranGrape juice. I found the recipe on the internet, and I have copied it at the bottom.

I added potpourri in a crystal basket and rose petals in a crystal bowl. They are the rose petals from my mother's earlier post about making frosted potpourri. Those were just for decoration, not eating, of course! I also had topiaries and a vase of flowers. My grandmother bought the vase in Ireland, and it was a gift to my mother. The pattern is Lismore by Waterford. 

The napkins are some my grandmother gave to my mother before I was born.

I like this look for a thirteenth birthday party. I would want to add a meat if it were close to a meal time.  The best part about this tablescape is that after my mom helped me take pictures, we ate this for lunch. Not all of it of course, but it was fun to make a buffet for ourselves!

CranGrape Punch

2 quarts of cranberry-grape juice, chilled

1-6oz can of frozen pink lemonade concentrate, thawed

1-32oz bottle of sparkling water, chilled

Mix the juice and lemonade concentrate in a punch bowl. Stir in the sparkling water just before serving.

We used lemon juice and water to substitute for the pink lemonade concentrate and Sprite for the sparkling water. It was really good!
