For the Ladies Who Lunch

This month’s china pattern “Times Three” is “Marlow” by Minton.

I love this pattern, because of the bouquets of flowers that contain so many different colors. I have chosen to use purple with the china for this ladies’ luncheon.
Most of you already are familiar with Minton china. Thomas Minton opened the Minton Works in 1793/96. The first china that was made was blue printed transfer-ware. In 1798, Thomas began making bone china, which is porcelain with bone ash added. In 1936, Thomas died and his son, Herbert, took over the factory. Over time, the company produced earthenware, bone china, pate-sur-pate and Parian. Royal Doulton now owns the company. A Minton Museum existed in Stoke-on- Trent, until recently. The sad news is that the museum was closed and the pieces in it were auctioned off in lots, instead of the collection being kept together as a whole.

I love entertaining my friends and Minton is perfect for a ladies’ luncheon. I started with a lavender placemat and added a “Marlow” dinner plate.

Next, I added a Pyrex amethyst “Festiva” glass plate for the salad. I like the way the swirls look with the fluted Minton plate.

A cream soup and underplate went on top. The handles on the cream soup indicate that the piece was made, before 1938.

It is marked with the old Globe Minton mark.

I wish that all of the pieces were old Minton. My cups are saucers have the newer mark. I was able to buy all six cups and saucers for the fabulous price of twenty-five dollars and I lost my “purist” fervor rather quickly, when I ordered them!

The creamer and sugar that we will use for our after lunch coffee both have the older mark. I have never seen any exactly like these and I feel so fortunate to have found them on eBay.

I borrowed the “Antique” goblets from my daughter. I have purple goblets, but they looked too modern for this setting.

Gorham “Strasbourg” silver looks wonderful with almost everything!

The centerpiece consists of a beautiful purple vase, which was a Tuesday Morning purchase and flowers that pick up the colors in the china.

My most recent find are the gorgeous napkins. I found them on Etsy and just had to buy them. They have everything – cut-work, embroidery and lace. They are seventeen inches square, which is large enough for most occasions and there were eight of them! Unless you are a serious tablescaper, you cannot imagine the joy in that!!!
I certainly hope that my friends enjoy our luncheon and I hope that you enjoy our June “Times Three” tablescapes. I am looking forward to seeing how my daughter and granddaughter use my Minton “Marlow” china. I am sure that it will be special.

  8. Three generations, tablescaping together! This is an amazing idea. I liked it a lot. Actually I am also in need of the best Seattle venues for my birthday bash. I want to throw a spring themed DIY party so I think a garden themed location would be perfect.
